To Whom it may concern:
I am interestedin applying for a grant to help set up an archive for
computer music in the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics
(CCRMA) at Stanford University.
Computer music is a uniquely American phenomenon made possible by an
extremely advanced technology. It has emerged as an important compositional
movement. The application of computer technology to sound opens up a world
of infinite possibilities to music. The implications of such a powerful and
essentially limitless instrument are only beginning to be realized.
The purpose of this project would be to establish a catalogued
collection of publications,
machine readable data files, and sound tapes which will provide a chronicle of
significant developments in the field. Clearly, this will be important not only
from a historical standpoint, but as a present means of exchanging information.
The CCRMA provides a perfect base for this archive. Its international reputation
as being at the forefront of the field affords it easy access to other computer
music centers throughout the world.
I would appreciate any information you could give me concerning grants which
are interested in assisting projects like this.
